What we do
Health and care research aims to increase knowledge about the causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human illness.

Our areas of research
Our research that is conducted in people (or patients) with a particular condition or users of particular services. Occasionally we will undertake research in healthy volunteers, and some of our staff may also take part. We are actively involved in research across a wide range of disease areas, including:

Diseases of the heart and blood vessels
Stroke
Kidney disorders
Diseases of the nervous system
Surgery
Anaesthetics
Blood disorders
Disorders of the muscles and bones
Injuries and emergencies
Critical care
Liver disease.
