Trust Governor lands national role

East Kent Hospitals Governor Carl Plummer has been appointed as the first Vice Chairman of the national Lead Governors Association.

Carl has been the Public Governor for Folkestone & Hythe since 2019 and is our deputy lead governor.

The Lead Governors Association covers the whole of the UK and allows Lead and Deputy Lead Governors from NHS Foundation Trusts to discuss ideas on how best to represent the interests of the public and staff at their local hospitals.

Carl said: “I am passionate about health care, patients and staff at East Kent Hospitals and the ethos of the NHS and I am delighted to have been appointed as the first vice-chair of the Association.

“I am looking forward to sharing my experience as a governor, and supporting those who may be new to the role of Governor, as well as bringing back new insights and ideas to governors and colleagues at East Kent Hospitals.”

Carl begins his term, which runs for one year, on Monday, 3 April, and also hopes to be a future chair of the association.

Niall Dickson, Chair of East Kent Hospitals Trust and its Council of Governors, said: “It is great news that Carl, our deputy lead governor, has been appointed to this national role.

“This is also a reflection of Carl’s hard work and commitment to his constituents and our Council of Governors and will help to provide us with ideas and insights from governors in other parts of the country.”

Bernie Mayall, Lead Governor for East Kent Hospitals, added her congratulations: “Carl is a fantastic advocate for patients and staff and has supported many of our new governors as well as being an excellent deputy lead governor in east Kent.”
