A fun day for fundraising thanks to the Mount McMaster team

Staff from the Mount McMaster ward in the Kent and Canterbury Hospital held a fun day in the Littlebourne Memorial Hall to raise funds for their ward.

Debbie Wilson, a health care assistant who came up with the idea said: “We usually hold lots of small fundraising events throughout the year but this time we thought we could just do one big one instead.

“We had bouncy castles, cake stalls, a tombola, a raffle, CPR training and even a talent show! We had an incredible turnout, including staff and those who used to be a patient on our ward.

“Our families all helped, everyone baked cakes and sourced raffle prizes. The tombola prizes went a lot quicker than we expected! I’m pleased to say that through all our combined efforts we raised over £1300.”

Jane Robson, ward manager said: “These funds will go directly to making improvements within our ward, for both patients and staff.

“I want to say a massive thank you to Debbie, Ellen Fieldsend and the rest of the team for putting together such a fantastic day. Also, a huge thank you to our patients from over the years who came to support us. It was lovely catching up with everyone and seeing how they’re doing now.

“A few years ago, we looked after one man who couldn’t walk, so when he walked in to our fun day we all became quite emotional to see how far he’d come in his recovery.”

Mount McMaster ward provides inpatient acute neurological and spinal care to patients. Many patients come to them after having spent time in critical care, and will stay with them until they’re ready to continue their recovery at home.

Dee Neligan, head of East Kent Hospitals Charity said: “The Mount McMaster team have done a fantastic job and should be really proud of themselves. Whenever money is raised for our charity, it can be requested to go to a specific ward or department, or even a specific piece of equipment.

I look forward to working with the team to ensure they get the most from the money raised.”
