Botox in the bladder ends long struggle for Deal grandmother

Deal grandmother, Rosemary Bevans, received Botox injections in her bladder to treat incontinence that she has struggled with for 15 years.

Rosemary said: “When I had the urge to go, I would just go. It wouldn’t matter where I was or what I was doing, I had no control over my body.

“I always had to know where the nearest toilet is and I had to take spare clothes with me everywhere in case my incontinence pads didn’t absorb everything.

“When attending events or going on a long car journey, I would have to go without drinking anything in order to stay dry. I knew it wasn’t healthy to be dehydrated but I felt I had no other choice.

“I tried absolutely everything, I spoke to countless doctors over the years and it would frustrate me so much as I felt like no one understood just how it was affecting me every single day.”

Rosemary first heard about the treatment from her niece who had just received Botox treatment for her own bladder problems.

Rosemary said: “I was so excited when I found out about this treatment and was hopeful that it could actually work for me.

“Nurse Elaine, the consultant and the rest of the team were all fantastic and the treatment was quick and painless – even though it involved 25 needles!

“I’m a new woman now. When I have the urge to go I still have moments where I panic, but then I remember I actually have time to make my way to a toilet. I have my life back now and it’s absolutely brilliant.”

Urology nurse, Elaine Freer said: “I’m thrilled that we could help end a 15-year struggle for Rosemary. Incontinence can be embarrassing and over time that can really affect people’s mental health, so I’m glad that we are able to offer this treatment.”
