Thousands benefit from tests and scans at Buckland's diagnostic centre

More than 42,000 patients had diagnostic tests at Buckland Hospital in Dover in its first year, thanks to £4.2 million investment in Kent’s first Community Diagnostic Centre.
One of 40 announced by the Government, the centre improves access to diagnostic tests such as CT, MRI and ultrasound scans, and X-ray.
Gemma Matthews, acting radiology general manager said: “Buckland’s diagnostic centre makes it quicker and easier for people to access tests and scans, so they can start any treatment they need as soon as possible.
“It also avoids the need for people to travel to busier hospitals in Ashford, Canterbury or Margate, helping to keep services there free for emergency patients.”
Work to expand diagnostic services at Buckland started in late 2021, with a new mobile CT scanner, followed by a mobile MRI scanner early last year.
Last summer a brand-new static CT scanner opened within the hospital, complete with new consultation, changing and waiting rooms.
Previously patients had to travel to hospitals in Ashford, Canterbury or Margate for CT and MRI scans.
The Trust has also invested in expanding the hospital’s existing ultrasound and x-ray services.
Ann Judges, Buckland’s community diagnostic centre manager said: “Patients tell us that they are keen to praise the staff for the high-quality service and lovely facilities at Buckland and that they appreciate how quickly they are seen and how easy the hospital is to access.”
